Eucalyptus viminalis

A common tree that grows to 50 m high with smooth bark or rough bark over the lower 2 to 6 m. The juvenile foliage differs from that found on the mature plant.

Aboriginal people used the sugary, white sap which oozes through tiny holes bored by insects on the twigs (manna). It was gathered when it fell to the ground.

Wood was fashioned into shields and drinking vessels were formed from burls on trunks.

Leaves were smoked over fire to reduce fevers.
